The Sun Ship

Sci fi/Fantasy image by

I had this idea during the winter solstice. I remembered the sunships carved on stones in ancient times and tried to imagine what their meaning was to the people who made them. So this is my vision of it. In the autumn the ship carries the sun to a far away land, a summerland, taking all life and light with it. In the spring it brings the sun back. The people in the ship have stored life in the eggs they are holding, and with sun and light the life returns. I wanted to figure out how I use colours and also try out some colour theory I had been reading about. I mainly used four colours for this picture: brown, red, blue and yellow. I used some orange in the sun, white for the eggs and a special pastel for skin tones. Of these other colours, I think only the white was necessary, and I could have done with only five colours.
