Ok......I was told that the story behind this one was a little "plantive". Not sure why, but because of it, I am changing it. Maybe this time around, it won't seen so "plaintive". This piece was done for a very dear friend of mine after she saw the one I had done for my mom. She wanted it exactly the same, so, I did my very best to do so...right up to the killer whale on the back. My friend, who was much like a sister to me, had been born without the use of her kidneys and had to go through two kidney transplants...both of which she rejected. She had been on dialysis all her life. I began the piece, but before she could actually see it, she went blind. But that didn't stop me, and I finished it for her. She was very happy to have it, and everyone told her how it looked. But from that moment on, she began to get sicker. I was told that her wish was that if anything ever happened to her, the skull was to come back to me. And it wasn't long after that when she passed away. I have cherished this piece from the day I made it for her, and will cherish it until it is my time to go. Each and every time I look at it, I am reminded of her happy spirit, her kindness, and love of life and everyone around her despite her illness. May she rest in peace and find happiness in being whole again. I miss you.
