This was a very last minute cake that I had no time to plan for. Altogether it took about an hour. This was a challenge in more than one way. The client didn't want a large cake and also didn't want any fondant on the cake. Because of the short notice I didn't have any of my usual gumpaste tools or anything so I carved the entire cake with a steak knife and used a wooden skewer to make the details. The size of the cake made getting the details of the fairy nearly impossible and I first tried to use only buttercream but the crumbs kept getting mixed in so I opted for marzipan on the delicate parts (arms, legs, face, that sort of thing.) I know her wings are a bit lopsided and her eyes are wonky but all in all I think she turned out well for a rush job. What do you think?
