At the time, I had been trying to come up with a mermaid/merfolk species design that is different from the 'classic' concept. This was just a concept study pic, that was just inked, but I ended up doing a quick shading job on it while I was bored in my English class. With all of those messed up pencil and ink lines on it, it's hard to see some of the details. I wanted her to be more horizontally designed (for some hydrodynamics, though it is really difficult to make a human-like creature very hydrodynamic), so I gave her the lower half similar to a dolphin's with small flukes, and without knee joints, and gave her a specially designed neck that holds itself naturally stable in a horizontal position (which probably looks kind of strange). Some other features of hers are webbed fingers, webbed arms, gills, solid black eyes, pair of fins on lower half , and hair that is actually more similar to jellyfish tentacles(which is hard to see in this pic). Her lower part ended up a little bit shorter than I wanted it, but I ran out of space on the paper to fix it. This is just one of the various species I'd like to design.
Sketched with an F pencil, inked, then shaded with a 4H pencil.
