This was a picture that came in stages. It started with just the center cat, and I hadn't really intended to put anything else in there. There wasn't really space on the sheet of paper to make it much larger or complicated than just that single central cat, as you can tell by how everything else goes off the edge. But the position I chose for that center cat was a weird one, and I needed something for her to put her hands on. It was originally going to be a chair back, but I just couldn't get it to look right. I don't remember how the thought for adding another cat came, but I really liked it when it did. Then, when it was just the two of those cats, the picture looked severely lopsided, with everything going on in the left half of the paper. So I added in another cat, and by this time I was ready to be done drawing the picture. You can tell that, by how less nice the third cat's face came out and the posing on her is much more generic. But I still really love this picture and it makes me smile everytime I flip through my old sketch book and spot it. :) Who wouldn't want a whole party of playful breasted-felines?
