This image had been lurking in the back of my mind for months. I finally got it down on paper as a rough sketch about two weeks ago. Then it sat on my drawing board... waiting... waiting. Finally a few days ago the rest of it came to me and in several furious, late-night sessions, I coloured it. Sadly, reducing the image murdered the detail and colours. And yes, I know her hands aren't the greatest, but personally, they're some of the best hands I've ever drawn! The castle is modeled on the famous castle Alcazar found in Spain, the same castle which inspired Walt Disney. For those who have seen/heard the musical 'Les Miserables' the meaning behind this picture is obvious. For the rest of you, here's the song that inspired this picture. Lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. There is a castle on a cloud I like to go there in my sleep Aren't any floors for me to sweep Not in my castle on a cloud. There is a room that's full of toys There are a hundred boys and girls Nobody shouts or talks too loud Not in my castle on a cloud. There is a lady all in white Holds me and sings a lullaby She's nice to see, and she's soft to touch She says: 'Cosette I love you very much.' I know a place where no one's lost I know a place where no one cries Crying at all is not allowed Not in my castle on a cloud. Pencil rough then coloured with Prismacolor coloured pencils on Bristol board. Original size: 9' x 12'
