' But suddently some power, descended from of old from divine race, possessed Luthien, and casting back her foul raiment she stood forth, small before the might of Carcaroth but radiant and terrible. Lifting up her hand she commanded him to sleep saying: 'O woe- begotten spirit, fall now into dark oblivion, and forget for a while the dreadful doom of life' And Carcaroth was felled, as though lightning had smitten him.' The Silmarillion pg. 213 As the quoted text shows, this is Luthien and Carcaroth. Earlier before this quote it described the landscape as having embattled cliffs in the distance and fissures in the ground that had serpent-like forms of mist coming out from them. Those elements are all in the background. I also like the skull in the closest castle to Luthien. Very fun to paint. Carcaroth was a wolf fed and grown by Morgoth until no den would hold him. He was the wolf who died as he killed Huan, another great wolf that was good and even defeated Sauron in a fight so Carcaroth would have been pretty massive if you ask me. Comments please 8).
