The Griffonrider

The sky was streaked with black smoke from the mounts of the highlords. Even as Brynne watched from the safety of the thicket, one of the leviathans, a fierce red, swooped down, spewing flames over the town, turning it all to charred ruins. The trees around her were smoking and blackened from a lightening bolt spat by a marauding blue. Her hand clenched the reins of Rincavornon, who chirred deep in his throat and tossed his feathered head nervously. Brynne stroked the silken down of his neck and whispered soothing nothings into a twitching ear. Rin flexed his talons, creating furrows in the earth, as his tufted tail swished back and forth, curling around his clawed paws. Suddenly there came the sound of horns, and both girl and griffon stiffened, eyeing the sky with fierce intensity. Brynne checked Rin's bridle and chest armor before securing her own helm and hefting the lance. Slipping onto the griffon's back, she cried, "NO VEREN!" and pressed her heels into Rin's sleek sides. With a resounding eagle's scream, they shot into the sky with lightning speed, Rincavornon's powerful and nimble wings maneuvering effortlessly throughout the chaotic battle in the sky, dodging dragons and their fatal breath with ease. That was the commander's plan. Griffons, being much lighter, quicker, and nimbler than the massive wyrms, could get into tight places and tough situations... dodging in to land the killing blow before the dragon had even comprehended their presence. // Pen and Ink, Pencil Crayons, Watercolour Sky
