...I got a cold when I was way down South Standing out in the heat. I'm stumbling through the crosswalk and I'm a-humming in the din When I get to the other side I'm gonna jangle my tambourine again. Now my eyes are all itchy, can't tell which way to walk down this street. I'm going down to the tunnel, down to the leaky, leaky tunnel... This picture was based, funnily enough, on the song by the Fiery Furnaces (which I paraphrased/murdered above). I did the picture before I figured out the song was actually about the tunnel under the Thames in Greenwich, in England. Until then I was sort of envisioning this freaky sci-fi world with nasty things lurking in tunnels under cities... shows how carried away I get before I read the lyrics properly! Although I think of a lot of their songs as being vaguely sci-fi. Anyway, I think this is the most complicated ballpoint piece I've done so far. I'm really pleased with it...Update: This picture has survived the Great Gallery Cleanout of 06 - I know the proportions are horrible and she looks like a rag-doll... but my this is one of the few pictures I've done to date which deal with something morbid or scary... not that this shouts it, I know. But the nastiness kinda fits in with my new ideas about what fantasy art should be like... this picture can stay here for now.
