During the Age of Dreams, the elf king Reynos ruled virtually all of Allarkis through dreams. He created a magical pillow to enhance his spell casting abilities, and to allow him to study his craft while he slept. As a side effect, the pillow caused his dreams to have an impact on the world at large. From this effect, he developed the technique of dream casting. While the wizard does not necessarily have to be asleep to cast spells, assuming a deep trance state will greatly enhance the effectiveness of a mages abilities.
