6 inch doll in hand sculpted burned out tree base. She is for sale in my Etsy store user elvenelysium (as of 1/09) Here is a bit of history. The story of Centralia, PA is a tale of governmental ineptitude and environmental disaster. Centralia was a coal mining town in central Pennsylvania. A big vein of anthracite coal runs right through the town. Some gonad decided to burn some trash in a big open pit....right where the coal vein was close to the surface and a fire started down in the mine. The state and federal government was very slow to act and failed to contain it before it spread so far that it was impossible. So for years they just left it and the fire burned away underground. Then decades later people started getting sick in their homes and their plants would last all winter due to the heat in the ground. Sink holes began to open. The fire was burning away right under the town. The fire down there will burn over a thousand years they estimate. ************************* There are many spirits who guard and protect a space. On the night the fire began Centralia's Guardian was off under the hill at the Faerie Revels, leaving her place unprotected. She wore a beautiful shimmering black gown and danced and flirted. In her absence she was not protecting her forest. As she was whirling on the dance floor, she noticed a tiny tendril of smoke curling up her glimmering dress. She put it out and continued dancing. But faster and faster more and more tendrils of smoke crept up her gown and she fell to the floor gasping. Something was wrong! So she flew away back to her forest. Too late, for as we know time passes differently under the hills. Her forest was burning, slowly, but burning nonetheless. She tried and tried to make it stop, but it had taken hold, too powerful for her. So her failure has condemned her to stand witness to the slow destruction of the place. She smolders the same way the land she failed to protect does.
