This is a picture of the death of Hyacinth. The Story goes like this. Once upon a time there lived a prince of Sparta named Hyacinth. He was very beautiful and 2 gods and 1 mortal fell in love with him. That mortal's name Thamyris. Thamyris challenged the Muses to a music contest. The Muses won and made hom a mute who forgot how to play the harp. So there was only the to gods left, Apollo and Zephyros. When Hyacinth had to decide between the two, he chose the radiant Apollo. This made Zephyros very Angry. "I WILL get my revenge!" Zephyros yelled. "Maybe you will, and you never know, you might just win someones heart," Apollo laughed as he said. By now Zephyros had blown everything out of proportion. He had to make apollo miserable, even if it meant killing Hyacinth. One day Hyacinth and Apollo were playing discus. Zephyros thought up an evil plan. As Apollo threw the discus, Zephyros blew it off course. The discus hit Hyacinth in the head and he fell to the ground. Apollo tried to heal the mortal wound, but Hyacinth still died. Apollo wept bitterly, wishing to go to the Underworld with his friend. Apollo's tears and Hyacinth's blood mixed and became a flower. In Ancient Greece the flower was called the Hyacinth, but today we call it the iris. Sorry about writing the stry fairy-tale style Left to right: Apollo, Hyacinth and Zephyros.
