The True Color of Shadowfax

'He spoke a word to Shadowfax, and like an arrow from the bow the great horse sprang away. Even as they looked he was gone; a flash of silver in the sunset, a wind over the grass, a shadow that fled and passed from sight.' (The Two Towers, 'Helm's Deep') A little background on this pic: I was inspired by the fact that I looked at other pictures of shadowfax, and everyone was arguing over his color--is he white, or is he black? Or grey? Personally I always pictured him as pure silver, but I was curious and set out to find out what color he is. It turns out that I couldn't find a single quote in the book that says what color he is straighforwardly--only that he's 'a flash of silver' or 'a shade in the night.' Nothing conclusive. I did, however, discover in the appendix a reference Felarof, father of all the mearas, who is described as 'a white foal', these days we know this doesn't necessarily mean anything, but when you consider the general knowledge of genetics at the time the book was written, it's entirely possible that Shadowfax was indeed intended to be white. So, I'm proud of his color...I didn't want to lose the silver element completely so I did add a little grey in there...but I like him! The background sucks but I think it's one of my better horses :o) If anyone has any more definite quotes on his color that I missed, please tell me!

Humanwood--Fantasy Art Gallery (1)

This story is being written particularly for Elfwood...I don't think the 'Humanwood Fantasy Art Gallery' would make near as much sense to any other readers ;o) I won't say it's my best writing, but I think it's my best story so far :o) Don't worry, it'll get better from here (if I ever finish writing it!)

Humanwood, Ch. 4

This chapter is probably the least important for moving the story forward, but the most interesting to Elfwooders *grin* Welcome to a tour of the Humanwood Fantasy Art Gallery.
