Toogood's Imp is one of my larger pieces, created on a piece of acid free cotton paper a little larger than A2. Her parents gave me three photos, basically what you see here, and the idea for a figure study came to me immediately. After some discussion, I was given the OK to both size up the portrait from my normal A3 size, and also to do three pictures of their daughter, rather than just the one. How could I have chosen between them? Her spirit of mischief shines through - the Imp was easy. Rendered in pastel and pastel pencil with a small amount of iridescence.
