One of my favorite artists is James Gurney who wrote Dinotopia. For my high chroma project in painting class I chose to do a saurian charecter of mine and try to emulate him in color choice and a little bit in style. Feathers are added on the saurian because some recent dino findings cite feathers on the dinosaurs so I thought it'd be a fun idea to paint feathers on Blackblood. I chose to model the feathers similar to a vulture on the idea that t-rex's might be scavengers as well. So thus becomes Blackblood! Blackblood is a Gianotosaurus with black markings on her muzzle that resemble spilled blood. Her friend/partner is settled in for a nap in the crook of Blood's neck, hiding among her feather ruff comfortably. To Clarify in case theres confusion: Blackblood is MY charecter, NOT Gurneys/NOT a charecter from Dinotopia, made for a story that I wrote sometime back that was not Dinotopia or has anything to do with it. Im only influenced by him and trying to imitate his style and color useage in order to learn better color and painting theory- not use his world or charecters.
