Something astronomically important is about to happen when the carvings light up -- at least, that's what their cheif told me. Maybe it needs new batteries. This is based on a fantastic picture called "Star Tracker," by Barbara J. Wickham.(http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/art/b/a/barbo/startracker.jpg.html). It's not meant to look like it, but the idea sort of came from it. In the end, this mask turned out kind of plain, but I had fun making it, even if it's sort of...expressionless. When it went through the glaze firing, the sgriffido work was almost completely covered, so I painted over it with acrylics and had a little fun with a pinch of glitter. I tried to paint it so it sort of looks like it's lighting up or about to light up from the bottom up. Barb -- I've built you up to this, and built you up to this, and built you up to this some more, and it's really not as great as I made it sound. ^_^' So, sorry for all the suspense.
