A Different Kind of Nike

Sci fi/Fantasy image by

A female bodybuilder as the Greek goddess Nike. Part of a series for my painting II class, done in metallic spraypaint and acrylics on canvas in about 6 hours. The series is on societal gender issues that seem to bother people for some reason, even though they really shouldn't. The pomegranate in her hand is a symbol of femininity, and the soybean "laurel" wreath a symbol of the hard work and dieting involved in women's bodybuilding. She is modeled after Tina Jo Orban, and depicted as Nike to symbolize the victory of the women who bust their asses and work so hard to achieve the bodies they want despite all of the rude, sexist comments people will make, and all of the misconceptions people have about the sport. Want to know anything else, ask. All Rights Reserved
