Rusalka is a 1901 opera by czech composer Anonin Dvorak. It tells the story of a water nymph who falls in love with a mortal prince. She turns to a witch called Jezibaba, and she gives her a human existence in exchange for her voice, so she can be with her prince. It's basicaly the Little Mermaid story, but with an unhappy ending; Rusalka kills the prince at the end... sad! This is how I pictured the moment where the witch takes Rusalka's voice. The water lilies are mentioned in the opera's libretto, and they are also a symbol for beauty and life rising through the mud and water to bloom.
