Owl Goddess

This drawing was inspired by the story of Blodeuwedd, a Welsh Goddess who killed her husband in order to take a new lover. She was turned into an owl as punishment. Blodeuwedd means “flower-face”, a reference to the beauty and vitality which life brings to us. The owl, as a night-dweller and flesh eater is a traditional symbol of Death. So here we have a Goddess who embodies the powers of both Life and Death. This piece was done in a fairly straightforward pen and ink style with lettering added in Photoshop.
