8/03 Oil on canvas
A green man, bearing the leaves and fruit of Quercus lyrata, the Swamp oak or Overcup oak. It's a member of the white oak family that lives in places where people don't nomally like to go: damp lowlands, full of hickory, cypress and gum trees. (I failed to mention in my bio that I studied forest management in college before I dropped out.)
He looks angry eh? A green man might be pretty angry if he could see the modern world. Oaks are traditionally associated with lightning and storms so I thought that should be expressed in his personality.
