African Faery

This piece was actually drawn back in 2000. I have recently been trying to expand my artistic horizons, so I have been attempting to draw people with ethnic backgrounds other than Caucasian. I find that it is a fun and interesting way to learn about other races on a deep artisitc level and it also helps with drawing certain traits that are perhaps more prominent in one race than another. I think this turned out quite well for one of my first attempts.     I was watching a show on Home and Garden Television where a woman was redecorating a room to reflect her African ancestry, and I saw some really beautiful African masks they were planning to put on the walls. Those masks were what actually inspired me to begin drawing this, although as usual, after I begin them they gain a life of their own. So, the woman inspired by the mask became a regal tribal fae! The face on the far right is also African inspired. The medium is blue ballpoint pen on newsprint with a bit of tinting with colored pencil. As of June 14, 2005 this original piece is up for sale at my website! For more information: African Faery
