After the fall of the fortress of Lag-Moss, the northern lands of the human kingdom of Ferranar were defended by remote garrisons from the far off cities of Darrmont and Du'Blake. Over time the formal nature of these garrisons was forced to adopt and evolve into a more flexible and efficient fighting force in order to remain effective on the difficult and untamed terrain. The need to operate in small but highly mobile units forced the men to adopted a new style of warfare which relied on speed, stealth and cunning rather than shear military strength. This new type of elite shoulder became know as the Norleon. The sharing of common enemies eventually brought the Norleons into contact with the legendary forest elf Rangers from the far off lands of Qu'Ellandor. The elves soon came to see the Norleons as allies in their endless war with the orc kind and so taught them many of their tactics and forest lore, thus the first Norleon Rangers came to be. Soon the vulnerable garrisons and stockades were abandoned as the Norleon Rangers took the easier to defend forests as their homes and bases of operation. Centuries on the human Rangers still hold a strong bond with forest elves of Qu'Ellandor, and defend the north lands from their headquarters in the huge forest known as Norlass.
