Scarabeus II

This is one in a randomized series of scarabs that I created. I think this is either the second or third one. The others include a sculpture and table mosaic and something else. Anyhow, this is acrylic on 12x16 in. canvas board. It illustrates the Egyptian lore stuffins about Kheper or Khepri(sp?), the god represented as a scarab. The scarab is aka the dung beetle as some of us may know...latin name, Scarabeus_____ and whatever the exact species it is. It continuously rolls dung balls with its eggs. The Egyptians paralled this to Kheper eternally rolling the sun across the sky, thus creating night and day. This creates the ability for flora and fauna to grow or rest, thus, be essential to the great circle of life. Now that you've had your history lesson for the day, go frolic and make art and chaos! ;)
