Damariss is an ancient soul of a long past age who should have died long ago, but her sorrow chains her to the mortal world, and her body was restored to an semi-mortal state,-able to feel pain, cold, hunger, etc., but not die- until her sadness mellows. Souls of this kind are called Ashspreaders. They carry a small shovel, and a strange lidded metal bucket, which contains mysterious ashes, replenished every new moon. The Lord of the Underworld burdens them with these things, and also a short single bladed sword for protection, and a pocket watch of distictive shape and size of a blueish silver metal that shows the time they 'died'. Should they manage to banish their sorrow entirely, they are granted another chance at life in the age that holds them, otherwise, they remain among the mortals of the age until their ashes cease to replenish themselves, and their soul's potency slowly deminishes until there is nothing more left. Commoners avoid Ashspreaders to the best of their ability, most of the time, for some have been known to react violently to acts of hospiitality. But every soul is different.
