The things that go on inside of my head is really in all honesty a strange sort of superficial way. I have 'people' in my mind I interact with. They are based on past experiences, influences on my interests, and carry conversation with things I like. I cannot describe to you my world in writing, I can best relate to you just purely in the image and 'why' I paint them. I do not remember faces, I do not remember names, I just know why they are. So if you bear with me on the fact that I can only interpret my world through painting, here is my work. And the why.Few things are as bright and beautiful as they appear on the surface; nothing is quite as dark or terrifying as it looks at first glance. In my work I explore the light side of dark, the dark side of light, the demons we all try to ignore and the beauty we just cannot seem to live without. This body of work (the Beautifully Repulsed) is about interpreting beauty in an unsettling manner that rejects the natural human form and sheds a sensual light on the perceptions of revulsion and the preternatural. They are a revolt against the common ideas of what beauty should and should not be. hey are outcries of broken self esteem and rippled by reflections of life encounters with creatures like myself. My figures are bold, ominous, hungry, and unwavering in holding their ground. This piece is in relation about a cat I used to have named 'pluma' or 'Boogie'. Her faced was deformed from overbreeding, and her looks often scared people, but she was the sweetest cat. I miss her.
