I've always been frustrated by the fact that fight scenes, especially Eastern martial arts, are difficult for me to convey in still pictures. (Fight scenes are nearly impossible for me to do successfully in writing, although it took me years of writing to figure that out the hard way.) I've finally concluded that for me to communicate a good fight scene, the audience must be able to perceive the timing of the moves, and timing is a lot easier to show in animation and in live-action film. Unfortunately, how many of us have a movie studio at our beck and call? Still, with technological advances in camcorders and software, I'll bet most of us will live long enough to someday be able to take fight choreography out of our heads and onto a screen for others to finally watch.
