medium: colored pencils on blue construction paper (I was also using a jpg photograph of actress Stephanie J. Block to get the pose, placement of features, and dress details.)Everything except the dress, which is seen throughout Act 2 of the Wicked musical, is of the classic MGM 1939 movie version of the Wicked Witch of the West. I also changed the nose and chin to restore the character's hatchet/hawk-shaped facial features that are mentioned in Maguire's novel. I figured a major point of the books and musical is that Elphaba isn't supposed to be attractive by conventional standards of physical beauty.
