This picture of Oblivion is loosely based on Commedia dell'Arte's Columbina. Oblivion is the sister of Death. She travels with him as he collects souls to ease the passage into the afterlife. She carries cloths to cover the eyes of the souls she helps and her butterflies make the path into death less forboding. Like her brother, Oblivion sheds a tear to mark the sadness that accompanies passing. This picture is done in pencil in my sketchbook.
