Ardashir---a commission

This is a commission for Eric Hinkle, an acrylic painting on 9 X 12 Bristol paper. 'Ardashir looks on in amazement as the lady jackal dances before him, waving her tail sock beneath his nose!' I love research, and this required a lot of it. Persian, Scythian, nomadic tribes of mountainous regions of Iran. The rug designs are based on tribal Persian rug-making...Zanjan and Shahsavan, of the North and Northwest. The aged carved-wood frame, however, was based on a carved wooden horse bit found in a grave in the Russian Steppes... a little out-of-region, but still blended nicely. Can you tell I had *entirely too much enjoyment with it? Definitely not cost-effective, but who cares...I learned a lot, and had fun! ;o)
