“The Open Hand” is the first story I wrote set in what I would eventually call The Universe of the Nine Roads. It’s also the first story featuring Zerieth, who goes on to become the Hierophant of the White Road in the novel I am working on and introduces The Order of the Open Hand. I place it here, after it’s having been rejected from all the best publications, for the delectation of my beloved readers, representing the “High Fantasy” stream of my work.
This story was based partly off the Nickelback song 'Never Again', and partly from a desire to use the character Orin who's been knocking around my head for a while.
Deep beneath the waves at the Heart of the Waters lies the Place of Echoes. There the Leviathan waits.
This story was inspired mostly by H.P. Lovecraft's 'The White Ship'. One of his great early works. It also has some personal meaning for me.
A story featuring Emrys once again, along with two of his former students. The first part just came to me one day, and then it made an ubrupt turn.. A little background: Emrys is an extremely powerful and ancient wizard..Allaria was the first person he taught magic too. But she has since turned down a dark path..I dont know all their history yet, but she blames Em for her younger brother's death. Liem is a new character who just sort of sprung into my mind and grew with the story.
This story is no longer 'canon' within the world of my stories. I decide this origin for Emrys's physical pecularities doesnt quite fit. But I am leaving it up as a sample of my earlier work.
This story was writen directly based on and inspired by an image created by fellow Elfwoodian Elina Vähä-Mäkilä. I simply looked at the image and followed the story as it came to me. You can see it here http://www.elfwood.com/art/e/l/elinavm/valonsateet2.jpg.html
