My version of a Dryad. Here's the letter written in the pic: My Dearest Aubrey, Doing well as can be expected. My time runs short however, as funds are low and I've seen only one of the rare reddish egrets I came to study. The notes acquired of the snowy egret should suffice for the Professor's book, but you know how I had hoped.A thing of some oddity occurred when I spotted the red egret last week, however. I thought perhaps you would get some small pleasure from the tale, as your mother was renowned to be of the 'fair' nature. Oh, forgive my teasing, I know how you say her mind was touched from fever. I couldn't help myself. As I was on my usual hike northside of Ciar's Brown Hills, I heard a voice. More felt than heard, but I was intrigued none the less since the locals are superstitious about such things. Though evening was coming, I must have walked two miles deeper, where upon a hidden lake I happened. Impressive, but moreso was the enormous oak at it's edge, wherein the branches appeared a single reddish egret. But the voice was not from the bird, it was from the tree! I thought perhaps my senses tricked me, but the tree did seem to have form to it, and I understand how country folk could think just that.I drew closer, if only for the egret's sake. The tree seemed to be watching me, but I did not feel totally unwelcome. Rather, sheltered, as if the place was not connected to the rest. The light did not fade until I left, but I took some wrong way on my return to Ciar. I can't for the life of me think how, but found ages-old abandoned farmhouses and a burned-down station where I thought the little town should have been. Should have taken Kara's advice and started using a compass.I've taken lodging in a nearby town called Harding, as no one here knows how to get to Ciar. Peculiar town, this. They must have some rich resource since most of them own those new automobiles. And not a man knows the Professor, either!Well, I shall let your eyes rest. You sounded a tad ill in your last missive, perhaps from the autumn coolness? I hope that has passed, and as you know, you have my love and prayers always.Yours truly,Reve
