Hello. My name is Katherine Barber (or more commonly known as "Kat"). Well first off, I am actually an old member of Elfwood, but it was about 1998 or so when I joined. I don't know if anyone here even remembers me, but I'm back! Why did I take so long to return? Well for a long time I quit doing much fantasy art, and so I felt that I wouldn't fit in here anymore really. I just didn't bother to join again until now. I was born and raised in a small town in North Texas. I never fit in this town or the school I went to and pretty much my main goal was just to escape. I did finally liberate myself from the public school system when I was in the 10th grade. I homeschooled for a few years and persued my art more seriously. I've always found my art to be an escape, and drawing for me is very soothing and rewarding. I draw and paint because it heals me, and because I love to see the reactions I get from people who view my work. I'm inspired by nature, people, literature, history, myths, romance, dreams, and conversations. I've always been very drawn to the beauty of nature and I am certainly a romantic (ie: "of, pertaining to, or characteristic of a style of literature and art that subordinates form to content, encourages freedom of treatment, emphasizes imagination, emotion, and introspection, and often celebrates nature, the ordinary person, and freedom of the spirit" to be more specific). I dream of being an illustrator, art instructor and/or well known and successful artist. I'm sure this is the dream of many artists, but it's my dream. Your taking the time to view my gallery only helps me along my way, and I thank you. -Katherine.
