This is a rather large piece... about 12"x16" and done mostly in Windsor Newton and Van Gogh professional watercolors on a thick heavy Canson Montival wet techniques paper. She's my version of Rapunzel. I decided to give her wings even though she's not really a "fairy" in the story just cause I felt she needed some wings.. Also I tend to think of golden/fair hair in fairytales as red or a light red... always have since I was very small. Probably because I am a redhead. My mom always said my hair shines like gold in the sun. So naturally I think of gold as more a redhead than a blonde. :P Sorry if that offends any of you "golden" blondes out there! The Rapunzel of my childhood was a ravishing redhead.
