Painted in August 2000. Fu is Japanese for air and one of the five elements of the Orient. This one is a gift for my friend Louise Kragh. See “Chi” for explanation about the project. The elementral balances on a mountanridge to empathise the ever-changing nature of this element. A sudden gust of wind will tip either this way, or that way. I created a lot of space in the picture also to give the feeling of vastness in this element, and you don’t know if the elemental is either on the ridge, or in front of your face – distance is ‘optional’.
