Ducit Amazonidum lunatis agmina peltis
Penthesilea furens, mediisque in milibus ardet
aurea subnectens exsertae cingula mammae
bellatrix, audetque viris concurrere virgo.
Book I, 490-493
'Raging Penthesilea led the armies of the Amazons with their moon-shaped shields, and burned, eager in the midst of the thousands, a warrioress fastening beneath her naked breast a golden girdle, and dared, a maiden, to charge against men.'
Now, I know that Amazons were supposed to have cut off their right breast so that they would shoot more easily, but when I started drawing this I mistakingly translated 'mammae' as plural for some reason. Oops. I really liked how the expression on her face turned out on this one.
