Three characters in a Sci-fi story I began to work on, but I soon got in trouble because I was much more interested in the characters than in the story.
The tall one is Daniel, and hanging on his arm is Rince. Kellan is lurking in the background. These boys maintain a haven of happiness in the midst of a totalitarian and controlling government; they were raised as brothers by a priest of a dying religion, a very loving and happy religion. Thus even while living in a stand-offish and stifling society they are very huggy and touchy, and extremely close. Daniel and Kellan are the oldest, somewhere between 17 and 21, with Daniel slightly older. Daniel has some alien blood. Rince is actually 15-16, though I know he doesn't look it here. He is very small and girly, and Daniel is very large, but proportions are exaggerated in this picture. Rince acts like a little kid (anyone read Fruits Basket? He was inspired by Momiji) and Daniel is the manliest of the bunch. Kellan is a bit in the middle, and is the main character of the story. He doesn't look quite like himself here, but this look fits this picture.
Kellan was randomly selected for a forced competition put on by the government, where if you do not comply with their wishes you die. Of the many selected only one will be victor, all others die. And the prize? Lifetime servitude and eventual death. Preliminary trials happen in secret, so Kellan was able to hide the horrifying truth from his Daniel and Rince. When they find out, however, his friends will stop at nothing to save him, and get all three out of the horrifying place they called home.
