I just think this is neat. Why is it fantasy? Well, I have only seen chess pieces this big once or twice in real life! There is some Kali reference in this image: Okay, I will explain. Kali is sometimes depicted as having conquered her own lord, or having conquered various gods of creation. In this image, the Black Queen (as I call her) has knocked off the White Queen, and is in the process of completing the ultimate Checkmate. Light recedes into darkness. No pointed ears. Sorry. But there's a Knight, a Bishop, two Kings, and a Queen. Well, there's tons of those things in fantasy art of all kinds! And chess is of course a game of tactics and strategy, predating modern turn-based games by, you guessed it, thousands of years. So I'm okay with it! Sadly, the Black Queen's back is, I think, too long. Or at least I feel there's just something not quite right about it. In my defence, this was drawn a long time ago, when I was less of a stickler for anatomical details of that nature.
