I quite enjoy building robot models in 3d applications. It's an awkward process, basically using modified primitives rather than doing it the 'proper' way with meshes... but I think the overall look and feel is more mechanical and clunky this way. I've cheated a bit with the texturing, and have effectively just layered a single texture over them. They articulate properly and animate quite well, which I'm quite pleased with. All of the joints work as you might expect, and the various pistons contract and expand appropriately. The one on the right (the short one) has had the honour of having a full page to itself in a popular magazine in Europe, albeit with a different set of textures to fit with the theme of the article.
