First Snow

As I was sitting with a blank piece of paper, this idea just suddenly hit me. The idea of something not from our world experiencing snow for the first time, just struck me as an interesting idea. What would it be like? I decided it would be frightening at first, feeling the cold on ones skin, the sharp air as one inhaled it. Then the idea of this fae or angel like creature came to mind. A delicate creature that had gotten lost, then awakening to the heavy snow and her reaction to it. Using her wings to try and shelter herself from the snow flakes, daring not to breathe after the first sharp breath of cold air and a frightened or bewildered look in her eyes. Leafless trees, looking like skeletal hands would probably add to the dread first impression. I am sure she would fall as much in love with the snow as I am at some point, but I think, having lived awhile, never having heard of snow and then finding myself in the middle of it all of a sudden, I might be terrified myself. Pencil sketch and acrylic wash on A-4 (11,6’ x 8,2’) photocopy paper.
