the albatross serves as a guide to lost sailors in the south pacific, where the bird coasts endlessly on its incredibly broad wings. the maiden, a nereied, one of posiedon's daughters, has fallen in love with the seabird, and sits quietly on the shores of various islands, her dress created of the waves that wash around her. she waits at each island, through storm and shine, for the albatross to pass her by. then she falls back to the ocean, her home, and journeys to the next beach where she will see him again. pastels on cardboard.
