He climbed swiftly, and with great determination, to catch the rising of the moon on the horizon. It mattered not how hard he pushed himself; his system was the older, cushioned one. Besides, this would be the last mission he ever faced....The battery pack, the humanoid's lifeline, beeped a steady warning on his back. He climbed faster still, pushing the juice to its limit.Beep, beep, beep...The collar around his neck set the command to return to base. He would have none of it, for he was free now.Beep, beep, beep...His entire system screamed to either return to his masters or self-destruct. He did not have to obey now!Beep, beep, beep...At last he reached the top. This particular model had been built to feel no emotion, yet something deep inside him stirred at the sight. The moon in all its glory sat amongst the stars in the fading rays of the day. In the Institution, there had been no sky to behold...For the first time in history, an android smiled.Beep, beep, beep....And so it was, when they found their tool, curled up contentedly with a dead battery pack on its back.
