Look Again

When she was young, the attic was her secret place; her private kingdom where she was a beautiful fairy princess attended by her court of shadowy fae and shy goblins. As she grew older, she came here less and less, until it was all but forgotten. But when she saw the old mirror, it all came flooding back until she could almost feel the eyes of her old friends watching her. She stepped on something as she knelt to examine it: the simple wood and ribbon circlet she had always worn as a tiara. Slowly she pulled back the sheet. At first she saw nothing unusual; but then she looked again and suddenly wondered, in shock: what if it wasn't just my imagination? Inspired by movies like Jim Henson's 'Labyrinth' which have always fascinated me. The idea that there are faeries and goblins all around us, every day, and that all we have to do is look closer to be able to see them... well, that's what I was trying to capture here.
