A Tribute to Karl Lines
The image below was created almost entirely with an HB pencil, with a few touches from a scratchy Sainsbury's 2B. The drawing was done on A4 cartridge paper (one of the last four sheets in my pad) and took about 12 hours of pencil on paper time, with something like 2 hours of sketching and planning.
The drawing was created as a result of a challenge from Karl Lines (One of the greatest pencil masters in this galaxy) on 18th November 2001. The rules of the 'Art Duel' were that we would each have a period of three weeks commencing at midnight GMT on 25th November 2001 to produce our finished pieces. Due to circumstances, I did not put pencil to paper (apart from planning sketches) until 23:38 GMT on 30th November. The picture was completed at 23:15 GMT on 11th December 2001.
The A4 picture was scanned at 400 dpi in 256 grayscale with contrast set at low into a bitmap file. This was then converted to JPEG and reduced to 25% of original size. It is this conversion and reduction which causes the blemishes on the image which look like 'acne'. The original drawing looks a lot better :^)
