I bought a wacom tablet and decided to try it out. I put all commissions and requests on hold for this pic because I wanted to give it a test run. I want to thank Sisterwolfie for allowing me to experiment on her Suzaku drawing. Her art has a unique signature style which often inspires me. On to the art: The pagoda is there to offer comparative reference to size. At first it was too close to the background so I had to spice it up a bit. It stands out enough without taking too much focus from the bird. Originally I had planned on setting the phoenix's mane, tip of wings and tail feathers on fire, but decided to save it for a different pic. I didn't want this to be gaudy. My inspiration for this picture was a peacock and my old japanese bantam rooster, Kinsei. He was a proud fighter and an excellent father who not only looked after his own, but kept watch over all the critters in the yard including my dog. Stand tall always, Kinsei.
