Finland, the land of the thousands of lakes, naturally needs someone to rule all waters. Lord of the waters in Finnish mythology, is called Ahti. The woman in the picture is his wife, Wellamo (also called Vennamo), the lady of the lakes, who takes care of plants, animals and other beings living underwater. Lady Wellamo highly appreciates polite behaviour and always rewards it. those wanderers lucky enough to see the beautiful lake queen, and wise enough to say hello or even give her a deep, polite bow, will soon recieve a precious gift as a token of waterqueen´s appreciation... at least that´s how the legend has it.
