So everyone and his brother has a flamey horse somewhere in his gallery. I guess they're sometimes referred to as 'nightmares', which makes sense, I guess. Anyway, overdone or not, I think they're cool-looking, and they're horses, so how could I not give one a try? Actually, this was done as a quick sketch when I was trying to create new brushes in Photoshop that would allow me to do lava and explosions on a volcano. I wanted to experiment with the different settings and see how they interacted as part of a larger picture. Pretty pleased with the light--this is the first picture I've done where the figure is lit rather than shaded. I've always admired the pictures I've seen where the figure is defined only by the parts where the light hits it, so that the rest of it is just the paper/background color. I can't say much for the anatomy--I could have done a lot better, but I really was going for the light effect, not for realism. Whatever. I like it.
