Whispers Across the Chasm

Sci fi/Fantasy image by

This picture was originally inspired by one of the legends of a ghost in the world of Elanthia that haunts a gondola making its way across a deep, snowy chasm that cleaves the main continent in two. Killed while crossing by a surprise attack by snowbeasts, the mountain Elf princess is destined to wander sorrowfully through the rooms of the gondola for eternity, never able to find even the slightest solace in seeing or interacting with any of those who are forced to use it for passage. This does not prevent passangers from seeing her, though, or feeling the air chill as she passes... This gondola was, as many of my pictures are, a first for me -- my first attempt at trying to create a set from scratch. After researching and discovering that the gondola was literally grown from living trees by an arduous process called lifesculpting I knew that I would never come anything close to truly creating a true picture of the true Shardian gondola, just an approximation inspired by it. (The original version of this picture bore darkened edges and the words 'Why am I still here?' imposed as a ghostly image over one corner. By request, I'm posting the original now as a replacement.)
