2007This is a drawing of my first royal gramma, Victoria, as a mer. She was kind of audacious and very outgoing. But also she never bothered any of the other fish, so I figure as a mer, she would also be kind. So voila! Unfortunately, the main character of my story appears after Victioria had mysteriously disappeared, so I have included a little excerpt which I had intended to include in my final story, but I am not to that point yet. Also, I think it is fairly clear that all of these excerpts are in quick first draft form, so please don't expect too much from them. Elizabeth's hands shook as she opened the bottle, pulling the stopper. She handed it to Marlin, who had been approved as the best reader. He removed a piece of parchment, unrolled it, and began to read. "Oh, my friends, it has been so hard for me, having been unable to think of any way to reach you. I had to somehow let you know I am alive and well. I have set several of these out in regions where the whirlwater had taken us, to see if it could reach you. I am fine, and no, I haven't found a definite way out. I was just out harvesting some Hermit'sbane when I heard the rushing noise that preceeds the whirlwater. Obviously I was hesitant, wondering what to do, maybe it would take me back, but maybe it wouldn't. I had just decided not to risk it when the funnel swiftly changed directions, and I was swept up. The waters were swift and fierce. I only barely survived, as you all know it is difficult to use one's gills in the swiftly moving water, but I was found by a clan of tang mer unconscious on a rock. The clan was near yours Dorg,. I told them your story, and they said they would pass it on. They also helped me find my way home. It has been so hard for me, wondering what has happened to all of you, and hoping that illness passed. I have found as many of your families as I could, but that is not saying much. I hope you find this and do not worry about me. I miss you dearly, although I cannot say I wish to be back in that place. Farewell." "And it is signed, Victoria>" Marlin finished. The mer were clearly exstatic at this news, but Marlin couldn't help but ponder aloud, "Who talks like that?" Coral was the first to respond, "Only Victoria," she said with tears in her eyes, "Only victoria."
