'Well, let's see. Proper old nonsense song that is. Tells of a fisherman who goes out looking for a nice big shoal, but instead of the pretty silver fish all he got was one great big one with nine tails! 'Tis a riddle, a puzzle, a chimera. There's plenty of mysteries in the seas around the old country and plenty more on the land, too.' These little critters are called selkelions, a spin-off on the selkie legend inspired by Welsh myth and the above excerpt from Gabriel King's novel The Wild Road. There aren't actually any selkelions in the novel; I made them up. But the legend was too good to waste. Art marker and colored pencil on watercolor paper.
