This a baby gnome in a papoose. His mother hangs the papoose in a tree nearby to where she is working in the garden so that she can keep an eye on him. Not knowing much about gnomes, I've created a culture for them similar to peasant folk. Their lives are simple and pleasant and they cherish their cultural traditions. What the baby is wearing would be a traditional outfit for other babies his age. The papoose is decorated with many symbols that are important to the community. The symbol representing his name is sewn onto his hat while the symbol for his clan is right above his head carved into the papoose. The importance of the clan is instilled in every youngster very early in their lives. The are taught to honor the clan and cherish it above all else, even themselves. Hence, that's why the clan symbol is above the one for his name.
